Reading
Reading is a huge part of our day. Every spare moment students are voraciously reading and devouring books. So much can be gained as a learner when we read: asking questions, predicting, inferring, finding evidence, visualizing, making connections, decoding, finding rich vocabulary and more. Reading unlocks and enhances all subjects. Encourage your child to read as often as possible.
Scholastic Book Wizard
Not sure if the book your reading is "just right". Use the Scholastic Book Wizard to check a book's Developmental Reading Level (DRA). Most fifth graders are "just right" for a DRA level 40. Going a little below level 40 is great, but going above can be frustrating without the help of a parent. Reading aloud is a wonderful way to spend time with your child and be together. They are never too old to be read to.

Recently we have been learning about Story Elements. Story Elements are characters, setting, 3 main events, problem, solution and theme. This students illustrated their knowledge using a picture book. As partners they organized the elements and illustrated the information using pictures. To see more posters, we have our final posters on our Picture page.
