I hope you all had a pleasant Thanksgiving. It was great to see family, relax, get organized and eat way too much. We are two weeks for our December break. I am sorry I haven't been blogging but I can't seem to find free time for anything.
Grades are closing Monday, December 9 and report cards will be issued on December 17th. The students worked very hard last semester and we MUST keep the momentum going. We have so much to learn and time seems to be in short supply.
We started book clubs this week with one of my favorite authors: Roald Dahl. The students are working in small groups and will have weekly reading assignments. Their books ( Fantastic Mr. Fox, Danny; the Champion of the World, Matilda, The BFG and The Witches) does NOT replace their regular nightly reading or DEAR books in class. I explained to them the key ten ways to become a better reader, is to READ, READ, READ, READ,READ, READ, READ, READ, READ and READ.
Science we are studying our new unit; Earth Sciences. We are study soils, then layers of the earth and finally rocks and minerals. This is one of my favorite subjects. You child will soon be a soil scientist. Ask him/her was the scientific name for soil scientist and why its important to study about soil.
The students are studying geometry in Math and the Colombian Exchange in Social Studies. Many new topics to learn in school and we are busy. Soon we will finish our classroom Kamishibai. The students will be sharing their stories and illustrations before the holiday break.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
