Did you see the key? Ask your child about the key, not specifically the Mill Pond Keys to Success but a real key on the trail. We took a beautiful walk outside this week for class. Where best to learn about plants? Outside! We are lucky to have the Assabet Trail right outside our door here at Mill Pond. It was the best classroom I could have every hoped for as a teacher. We discovered many different types of plants and seeds. The students were so inquisitive, I wish I could have spent more time outside. (Click on the picture for more)
October brings the new key value here are Mill Pond: Responsibility. Throughout the month we will discuss responsibility. The message is be responsibility for your actions, helping others, doing your job as a student, friend, sibling, and son/daughter. Now that we have been in school for more than a month, the students have been taking on more responsibilities. So, the key value is worth spending time discussing how the students can "own" it.
"Out of My Mind" by Sharon Draper has been part of our read aloud every day. I hope the conversations in school have spilled into your conversations at home. The Global Read Aloud has allowed the students and I opportunities to make connections. We used the book to have lessons on a comprehension strategy called Making Connections. When we read, we make connections to our selves, other books or the world around us, it helps to understand and comprehend more. "Out of My Mind" is a story of a young girl with a disability. She can't walk or talk, but through the book we can hear her thoughts and her struggle. It's a powerful book. I hope your child shares.
Student seats and our classroom are changing this week. I like changing things up, I hope your child does too!
Have a great week!
