Assessing, Assessing, Assessing. Yes, the child took their Math Assessment, Spelling Assessment and a quick Phonics screening. Not to worry. All this assessment has been a huge help to me. I am getting to know your child as a student.
Each teacher on the Terrapins Team starting change classes. In Mrs Mercer's class students created their "Mathematical Me" posters. In Socials Studies with Ms Gowen, students got right down to business. Social Studies homework was assigned this week and due Tuesday. I saw all my students for Science.
What is a Scientist? Without any prior knowledge, I asked the students to draw a picture of a scientist working. I observed a lot of crazy hair and blown up test tubes. I used the opportunity to clear up any misconceptions about science and scientist. I showed and explained that science happens in oceans, mountains, desert, forest and other places besides laboratories. Scientists at one time were only men, but now there are women and men scientist leading research in meteorology, medicine, physics, geology, oceanography, astronomy and beyond. I wanted the students to realize science happens every day, hour and minute all around our world. I also wanted them to realize anyone can be a scientist, if they're ready to question, research and test the world around them.
Next week will be our first full week of school. I am excited about getting our full schedule going and starting our journey in science and literacy. As always, please email with any questions or concerns.
Have a great week!!
