Our first full week of school, so much has happened. Students spent Activity Period this week meeting for Orchestra, Band and Chorus. Instrument Lesson will begin soon. We also visited the library this week and starting borrowing books. We spent sometime this week discussing how we choose books.
We read a lot this week. I was really impressed with the stamina my students had reading. They read quietly and without distraction. It was quite a sight to behold. Other teachers even complimented them. I was so proud. We also started this week, our incentive program. Students get awarded tickets throughout the day for working hard and being respectful. On Friday, when they have accumulated enough tickets, the tickets get cashed in for rubber bands. Not ordinary rubber bands but Rainbow Loom rubber bands. They Rainbow Loom stays at school and the students are not to bring any bands from home. The goal is to have a long Rainbow Loom to wear with pride for all their hard work.
Must Read Monday is tomorrow. If your child has read a book over the weekend, Must Read Monday is a day to share their good reads. I am hoping to spark more interest in books students may have not heard before.
In Science we completed our first experiment by using a simple ball. Each student was asked to bring in a ball and test the Scientific Process. The students learned the six steps of the process using the ball. Ask them if their hypothesis was true or false.
There was so much happening this week; reading assessments, Book Trailer Tuesday, first fire drill, small field trip outside to study two types of plants, our summer stories and morning meeting games. I briefly mention these events, in the hopes your child will tell you more.
5th Grade Open House is this Wednesday at 6:30 pm. I look forward to meeting many of you and sharing our curriculum and classroom.
