Tuesday our class will be heading to Tower Hill Botanical Gardens in West Boylston. This place is beautiful and we will continue our study of plants while we soak in the sun (I hope) and fresh air. Please have your child dress appropriately and bring a bag lunch. No glass, please.
Wednesday and Thursday this week our half days due to parent/ teacher conferences students will be dismissed at 11:25. Then on Friday, in an effort to learn more about each other, students will be asked to wear something that indicates their hobby or interest (for example, if your child swims; wear goggles). A note will be going home on Monday with more information and rules.
Also this week and next week students will need to create a flipbook from their favorite chapter book. We have already created an outline of the information and I have conferenced with students to provide support. Students should be drafting, typing and drawing for this project both in school and at home.
We are also very busy expanding our vocabulary and reading and responding to both informational and fiction text. I use weekly literacy letters or “write-arounds” to promote reading and writing in ELA. Please ask you child more about the “write-arounds” using a website called youngzine.com.
Lastly, I have spent the last several weeks talking to students about band lessons. These lessons occur at various times during the day. Students often miss academic classes to attend lessons. We ask each student to ask permission from the classroom teacher prior to the lesson; this ensures the student will not be missing an important lesson, quiz or test. There is some flexibility with lessons and we are assisting the students in selecting times. Please be aware it is the student’s responsibility to keep up with the class work and check in with their teachers.
Lastly, Thank you for returning your progress reports so quickly. If you have any questions please contain me via email.
